5 Tips for a Valentine’s Day Proposal

Posted by Icing On The Ring tag icon Perfect Proposal

You’ve got the ring, you’ve got the date, and you’ve got an idea of how you want your romantic Valentine’s Day proposal to come to life. All proposals are memorable and special, but a Valentine’s Day proposal comes with extra competition, as lots of other couples are trying to get in on Cupid’s magic that day too. Not to worry, we’ve got some Valentine’s Day proposal suggestions that will help to make the moment even more perfect.

Plan Ahead

Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year for restaurants. Be sure to make your reservation at least a few days ahead. The last thing you’ll want is to be under pressure to find the ideal setting at the last minute. However, if you’d rather wing it the day of, you’ll want to make sure you have a backup plan. No one should be hangry before popping the question.

Get Her Curious

It’s OK to let her know you’ve got a surprise planned. Build anticipation by adding elements that show how much you love her. Reminiscing with photos and stories will lead up to that “is this it” moment. Don’t pretend you have nothing in store or that the day is like any other day, because as much as she might love a surprise proposal, she won’t want to be caught off guard or underdressed for a special occasion.

Make It Classy

We’ve all experienced the cheesiness that Cupid can bring at some point or another. It’s easy to get caught up in the clichés of Valentine’s Day, but you don’t have to let them get in the way of a beautiful proposal. Go for elegance and romance. Twinkle lights and candles are a great way to add to (or offset) red roses and chocolate.

Take It Outside

Even if the weather is less than perfect, braving the elements can make for a beautiful proposal story. Use the weather to your advantage and go for a walk or hike. Go sledding or ice skating if you’re in colder climates. Sometimes chillier weather makes for an even more magical proposal.

Double Down on the Romance

If there is any time to really up-play your romantic side it’s Valentine’s proposal day. Surprise your bride-to-be with something completely out of the ordinary for you two- a horse drawn carriage ride, a violinist to serenade her at a private dinner, or an overnight stay at a luxury hotel, anything that shows you really went the extra mile.
